802.11b is a "half-duplex" protocol meaning it can send OR receive at a certain bandwidth but not both at the same time. For the type of application we are talking about here we are almost entirely using downlink. The uplink is still required for small acknowledgements to keep the traffic going but there will be virtually no data there. One should divide the stated throughput of wireless products (802.11) with two to get some real world figure. I guess we can blame the marketing departments of the wireless vendors for this misunderstanding. Who would buy a wireless router that is only capable of 5.5Mbps when the other company is selling one that does twice that? -- bergek Transporter - Squeezebox 3 - Serener GS-L02 - Via EPIA SP8000 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bergek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7805 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30342 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
