No, I won't get rid of the Squeezebox. It's nice to have. I can
imagine having it hooked up to the computer (a foot of ethernet or
whatever) and using it as an alternate interface. I can also see just
using it in the bedroom.

For my primary system, though, I don't want to have to worry about
drop-outs again. Again, I already have a good DAC. Apple is selling
refurbished 17" iMac Core 2 Duos for $849. That's less than half the
cost of a Transporter. Hooked up to a DAC, there won't be drop-outs.
More versatility, no server bugs, and a screen (with iTunes plugins)
with very nice visualizers. Besides, I already have a laptop and a
desktop, so this will be a third computer for spasms of ripping CDs.

I'm not saying this is great or for everyone; it's just a solution that
fits my needs, seems reasonable, and that I look forward to
implementing. I can completely understand someone not wanting to do
things this way. And, yes, using iTunes means standing up, walking
across the room, and typing in a choice. That's not so hard. Besides,
I can still use the Squeezebox (what I'm saying is that I WANT to use
iTunes, specifically). The only question, really, is about those
converters...
