Here's the thing: I personally know two Transporter users (both friends
and not on this forum) who have intractable drop-out problems. I have
had drop-out problems and have tried everything in the book to fix them
-- and nothing has worked. Therefore, I am commited to a wired
solution.

So, my initial question was, would running a USB->S/PDIF converter to a
DAC from an iMac work? The question of sound care issues arose. Then,
I answered my own question: the iMac has an optical S/PDIF output.
Presto.

So, my plan is twofold:

1. I keep my Squeezebox. I go ethernet to Squeezebox (about a foot)
to DAC via coax. This gives me a quick and easy interface.

2. Because the computer is already there, I can take advantage of
iTunes on occassion and run optical to DAC (it has both inputs) to amp.

That's the size of it, really. I am disappointed in the wireless
thing. Mind you, these drop-outs are border-line rare. However, they
are annoying when they happen.
