Does anyone have any references (academic peer review journal quality) on the 'persistance' of aural memory? How long a gap between listening to 'A' and then 'B' can elapse and still have that comparison remain valid? Obviously, this might depend on the magnitude of those differences, but I've found myself in the situation where in doing comparisons, I frankly don't remember with any confidence what the previous sample sounded like.
