As far as I can tell, the advantage to EAC is that it can in theory get more off the CD if the CD is a bit suspect by repeated reads. Since the error correction data is on the CD and therefore the same for both iTunes and EAC, it can't actually repair errors any better than iTunes. What it can do is perhaps get the original data or get enough for correction on a damaged CD through repeated reading.
