I think the long term reliability issues will come from the complex IC's, rather than anything else. They can be built for 20+ years of service, but most aren't these days... Most consumer product life cycles don't demand that length of service (who here owns a 10 year old cell phone?) and the makers of these products won't spend the money for longer term reliability...
Having said that, I've got several bits of fairly old gear in my rig, including a 25 year old Bryston 3B amplifier, and a Classe DR3. I've a special love for the Bryston, because of the way they retroactively extended my original 5 year warranty to 20 years! How often has that happened to you?
