They liked it at Stereophile. They also did the measurements, which was the final factor that convinced me to buy one, and boy am I happy.
Perhaps generalizing, but just my thoughts on a few factors going against the Transporter in some reviews: High price for what is perceived as a "computer" component. If it was Japanese, handbuilt by some mythical master, had direct wiring and one capacitor, and sold for $10,000, I am sure the reviews would be better The box is 2/3 empty inside. I think that many reviewers are loath to recommend a component without giant caps in the output stage. Of course, see above-If it was Japanese.... For some reason, many computer as source proponents are on this NOS bandwagon. The only advantage NOS has is that it is easier to build for small production/DIY, and even that is questionable. Personally, I like to listen to music with bass. Do these reviewers really have the know how to set up a good computer as source system? It doesn't take much, but do they really get it? I think it represents a further step away from vinyl and toward the solidification of digital playback (And I am a vinyl guy). Lastly, there is also no "fiddly" aspect to it. A few steps on the remote or computer and you have set up your playlist for the evening. No fussing about, which seems a prerequisite for "serious audiophiles". Personally, I am glad I can rip all my CD's to a computer and store them away. Leaves more room in the listening room for vinyl :) -- riffer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ riffer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13459 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39093 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
