I guess opinions vary because as of now my cd transport (CEC TL-51X) sounds better than my SB3 running through the same DAC (CIAudio VDA-2 w/VAC-1 PSU) using either my DH Labs D75 coax or my no-name glass optical. I have tried to prefer the Squeezebox (convenience and I can sell the CEC and buy more music or...) but it just doesn't sound as good to me. Now, using a different DAC or using an external power supply on the SB3 (I will be buying the CIAudio one to try) might change things. As to using computers. It IS time consuming to rip all of your cd's (and doing it well means learning how to set up EAC and Accuraterip properly and so on) and it requires a computer in the same room or buying a wireless router (not everyone has one). And every time you buy a cd you have to rip it and make sure the tags are correct/the way you want them, time that could be spent listening to that new cd instead. I loved my Squeezebox, until I heard the CEC. If the CIAudio power supply evens the playing field I would be more than happy to resume using my SB3 as my main source. Given the choice between browsing the SB3 and good sound or getting up to change the cd and having noticeably better sound, I'll take the latter. I recently compared raw wavs and flacs on my SB3 and the wav sounded a touch better but not enough to compete with the CEC. If the SB3 was as perfect as you say everyone would choose that route yet some still prefer their traditional cd transports. -- SatoriGFX ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SatoriGFX's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8852 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39438 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
