Trying an external DAC is the right move if you're not quite there with the output of the SB3 RCA analog output. While it is a great DAC for the price, the caveat is right there, and many people in this forum -myself included- report they prefer the sound of an external DAC combined with the utter convenience of the SB. I would also think that the PS upgrade does not make sense of you use an external DAC and the optical digital interfaces.
