Transporter is very convenient and that is its biggest attribute. No need for computer interface in your listening room which means no need to deal with typical PC problems such as fan or hard drive noise.
I've discovered however that the ethernet sourced data may not necessarily sound the best on this device. I have several spdif sources including a pc and some of them sound better TO ME with the Transporter used a dac only. There is more life and immediacy to the sound, more palpable presentation. Call it a "good jitter", I don't know, it just seems more musical to me than data from Slimserver which makes me hit the "Next" button quite often. I know that in theory that should not be the case but it is in my experience. I get similar results when I feed the Transporter and all the other sources to my Benchmark DAC1usb (through glass toslink). If you don't mind having computer around the anync USB dacs from Wavelenght are the "latest greatest" as a far as usb interface goes and from what I hear they have licensesd their technology to Ayre. -- Kiep ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kiep's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8844 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43129 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
