Hi,

I am building a digital front end based hi-fi. Here is what I am
looking at

Front end : Mac Mini or Mini-itx based linux

This is where I need help. I initially thought I will use a USB based
solution with a high-end DAC from Wavelength (tubed dacs) or
Benchmark/MF Dac3/Audio Note etc. but I was also well aware of the
Transporter.

The USB solution also promises jitter free audio. Being a firmware
engr. with good knowledge of Linux and its goodness (I used it everyday
at work and home) I am more leaning towards an open source community
friendly solution like the Transporter.

Are there any critical differences between the 2 solutions (sonic
quality, jitter). How does the network port on the Transporter help me
apart from the fact that the source (sender) need not be physically
connected to the DAC ?

How is the ethernet DAC implemented and how are the clocks synchronized
with the sender ? The USB-I2S DAC are supposed to be very good at
eliminating jitter.

Is there a Transporter 2 coming and should I wait for such a device ?

Thanks,
Sunil
