Wonder why this comes up here that late. In other forums this is discussed since years.
One thing i have to say is most annoying to me with this. Material on CD that is that smashed of cause can´t compete with a SACD version for example. SACD has limits in its specification to prevent this loud mastering. I bet when doing more honest mastering for the old CD the difference weren´t that big on some material as the industry wants us to think. One example i have here. A Yim-Hok Man CD. The drumhits in the first song are pretty distorted. By accident i stumbled across it being a HDCD. There is no sign on the cover or CD. After decoding it the drumhits are perfect! Mixing this down to 16/44.1 makes them still perfect but more silent. Looks like marketing is playing with us. -- Wombat Transporter -> Avantgarde based monoblocks -> self-made speakers ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wombat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4113 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43045
