I don't think that you have to run for cover, I'm sure we can discuss this in an orderly manner :-D Sometimes I go crazy in my responces, like this time :-)) when this Digital / Analog discussion comes up we always tend to compare a $200 Cd player to a $200 LP player.... But the trouble is that a $200 LP player is very different from the high-end players (unfortunately they're much more expensive than $200) A very expensive LP player is a different animal, one of the things that a high-end LP player does is to isolate bad vibrations coming from the speakers, so what can we do about that... well we could eliminate it? The vibrations that are there clearly mess up anything in an LP player where you're talking low volumes. and a lot more with high volumes.... perhaps the sustained 11Hz note from the Mortan Nagol SuperDepth SuperDuper extra signature+ subwoofers indues much more movement on the needle than the stuff on the vinyl. If we could only play the records in utter silence, you wouldn't have that much noise.... You could of course digitize the vinyl using a pro 192KHz/24bit soundcard. How would the dynamic range be now when the vibrations are gone??? Also: have you ever looked at how an analog signal from a DAC looks at -80dB, you can hardly see a resemblance of the original signal. I'm sure the ear may notice a difference The analog signal at -80dB may be noice induced, but it certainly looks like the original signal, I'm sure the human ear can hear a difference Does anybody really know what the hearing threshold of the human ear is.... If the eardrum moves less than the diameter of an Hydrogen atom, you may hear it.... Which means, the ear may hear incredible nuances that's way beyond comprehension when it comes to measurement As to the $50 CD player, listen just once to a Wadia..... if you dare..... Your life will not be the same thereafter.....
