For that price and in response to your needs for more clarity and separation the NHT Classic Three is a perfect choice. According to many reviews in circulation this speakers have class leading resolution and separation, they have received many awards and the company offers great support, try scheduling an audition, you wont be disappointed, I have heard them many times since my father owns them (I helped him audition many others in that price range before we both decided for the nht's), apart from great sound they are really well made and extremely good looking.
Follow the previous advice of staying with your cambridge, powered speakers start being an serious option if your budget quadruples.... good luck, -- GuyDebord Reference3A RoyalMaster monitors biwired with van den Hul Inspiration, REL Strata5.
