All the digital cable can do is make the SPDIF clock recovery
harder/easier by accurately preserving (or not) the leading edges of
the waveform and not letting reflections interfere with them...IMHO.

Not denying what you are hearing - but the sound quality differences
you describe aren't normally the ones I'd associate with jitter...

Have you got any of those freebie cables that come with the SB lying
around?
I'd be interested to know how they sound in your system.
