While I disagree with some of your points regarding Stereophile (more in a moment) I do completely agree with you as far as the music coverage is concerned. Stereophile's music editor is a complete jerk and under his guidance he managed to turn a once useful and worthwhile section of the magazine into a farce. The hit rate for Stereophile's "Recording of the Month" is no better than 50%, in other words 50% of the time the recording is somewhat worthwhile and the other 50% of the time the recording is a complete joke: Bon Iver, anyone? As for the equipment reviews, I would give the edge to Stereophile because of the more technical aspects of their reviews. The TAS reviews are almost entirely fluff with little or no action pai to the technical aspects of the equipment. For example, not even taking the time to understand audio codecs and DRM schemes. And if HP's columns aren't the ultimate in "it's all about me" then I don't know what is. Super Disc List my ass - I would only play most of the music on his Super List as some form of punishment for people I don't like. "Casino Royale" is almost as bad as "Jazz At The Pawnshop" with "Famous Blue Raincoat" following right behind. One last thing, Stereophile has also covered music servers, but at least they got things right and gave positive reviews to both the SqueezeBox and Transporter. -- ralphpnj Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels -> Snatch -> The Transporter -> Transporter 2 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/jazzfann/) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=49614 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
