Before I bought my Squeezebox a year or so ago, I had been ripping music to VBR MP3s. I had a fair collection by then. I still haven't got round to ripping it all to FLAC now, so plenty of things I listen to are MP3.
And my opinion is that MP3s do sound immeasurably better through decent equipment, an external DAC, or whatever. So a Transporter isn't a mad purchase even if all your music is lossily compressed. I'm not recommending it (partly because I've never had a chance to hear the Transporter, and it's so much pricier than the Classic), but it's not stupid. Being able to distinguish between MP3 and FLAC back to back is one thing; being able to get the most out of either format is quite another. -- SJobson Mac Mini - Squeezebox 3 - MF X-Dac V8 - MF XT-100 - Spendor S5e ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SJobson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=46186 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
