Since I've in the past owned Sonus Farber and some of the other gear you're trying I'll give you my $.02 worth First since you're in the UK see if you can get your hands on a GOOD cd player I'd strongly recommend a Meridian G08 keep the Copland int, it's a good sounding unit. Loose the DAC for now. I'm sure I'll get a reaming from the "audiophiles" here but try using matching speaker and interconnects throughout. I recommend either Cardas, or Audioquest, or Transparent hook it all up and give it a day to settle in..
I have a VERY strong feeling the sibilence will be gone. Then try replacing one part at a time, always give things a day to settle in..
