That is correct about the Copland. But you must consider that the GPs bass drivers are rather demanding (my Denon with 160w gracefully abandons at high -though not extremely high- levels). It's quite possible that a slight mid-bass rolloff of the amplifier, makes you listen to higher levels than usual. And the overall image over-exaggerates mid-highs.
