First of all, one of the three tests Oohashi et al performed was a
listening test, and they claimed a statistically significant result. 
Did you even read their paper?

Second, the AES test wasn't really a hearing test - where did you get
that idea?  It -was- a perception test.  If the subjects could tell the
difference in any way at all the experiment would have produced a
significant results.
