Dylan can convey more reality/emotion in his croaking than many 
"singers" ever can.

Sinatra wasn't a particularly good singer either, but he is a legend.

There are many more examples.

BTW, don't get me wrong about talent shows - there *are* some genuinely 
talented people on them - Lemar is pretty good; Leona Lewis is a su[erb 
singer; neither are really my cup of tea, but they're both obviously 
talented. It's the rest of the dross that I can't bear!
