I must say I am very surprised to hear you say the difference between the SB3 0n its own and with a Beresford DAC is negligible.
I find the SB3 by itself has a very flat musical presentation - it spring to life with the external DAC. A piano chord dying with the dampers off is the tell-tale for me. I am relived to have just got my DAC back after Stan fitted MOD21 - so relieved. It's too early to say what difference the upgrade has made, and my problem is I am now comparing the upgraded DAC to the SB3's DAC. Night and day - chalk and cheese. As I said, I don't understand how you hear such little difference.
