One of the best features of the Transporter (TP) is its ability to
accept input from an external word clock (WC).

In theory, this seems like a bad idea. After all, how could a (slow)
word clock possibly compete in precision with an internal crystal
oscillator? Especially since the WC freq must be multiplied to
synthesize a master clock signal?

In practice, I can say that I have had very positive results with
external clocking WHEN THE TP IS USED AS A "TRANSPORT" (NOT A DAC).
IOW, when the TP's digital output is streamed to an external DAC. I
have tried 3 clocking sources, and every one of them improved the sound
quality (SQ).

(One of these "clocks" was a precision signal generator outputting sine
waves. It arguably produced the best SQ!)

While I did not do "blind testing," I did confirm the result with other
audiophiles. "The difference was not small," as the mags like to say.

If my results are confirmed by other forum mambers, I would offer that
this approach is a great way to get more out of your TP/Ext DAC. A
decent ext clock like the Antelope that I use costs about $1K. Signal
generators can be had for <$100 used.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Sean, have you tested this approach in your lab?

Bob
