O.K., O.K. don;t beat me anymore :-).  I have the replacement unit in
my car and will give it a go tonight.  My thinking was (false maybe)
that the DAC seemed to be working fine and the problem was before that. 
When it was playing it sounded "normal", but maybe the issue does affect
the tonal characteristics of the unit.  I'll find out tonight.

As I said, nothing would pleas eme more than to have this work.
