Hi OP I use a rotel ra-02 amp and rcd-02 cd through b&w bookshelfs. Good basic kit. I bought a duet and have to say it sounds better than the cd player when playing flac files and that is with no external dac.
In terms of usability the duet remote is brilliant and running it from a nas drive, while quite difficult in the early setup, is fantastic once up and running. Silent and super cheap in terms of electricity usage. I prefer to listen than to tinker and the duet is ideal for my needs, I heartily recommend it. Personally I would buy the duet and see how it goes. You can always get the transporter later if your ears are good enough. Personally I think there is a lot of kidology going on with higher end gear and while the transporter may sound marginally better (or maybe just different) occasionally on short passages of some tracks, mostly I think you would struggle to tell the difference.
