Where did you read this? - there is some VERY LOW level, very high
frequency noise visible on the analogue outputs of the SB3, which is
probably breakthrough from the VFD display circuitry. 

There is no evidence of "pretty serious electrical noise issues" on the
s/pdif that I am aware of.
