The SB has a floating ground, and as a result there is no way for any ripple from the PSU to be shunted to earth. Under typical usage conditions (unbalanced connection to an earthed amp), the ground plane gets earthed via the amp's earth, and the ripple is shunted.
But the usual way to connect an unbalanced output to a balanced input is signal to hot, ground to cold, with the interconnect's screen connected only at the balanced input ground. (The purpose of doing it like this is to break ground loops). But of course I had forgotten that it's done this way because the unbalanecd source is typically grounded, which isn't the case for a SB, and so whatever voltage happens to be on the ground plane gets interpreted as signal. -- cliveb Transporter -> ATC SCM100A ------------------------------------------------------------------------ cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76113 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
