Reading this forum, when I bought my Transporter I initially started
from its built-in volume. Then, since I did not use preamp for stereo
path, and since the volume was too high, I started to play with gain.
Frankly, my Parasound A21 amp has these on its back. Yet, it was not
practical to change these controls. Since my wife does not like loud
music, I needed to keep volume under 50, and that simply made the music
sound flat.
After few months, I realized that having surround preamp I can use it
for stereo as well. And bingo, I connected my stereo source to its
bypass inputs, and got everything back - bass and imaging..
My wife is my SPL - she is happy, and I can listen to music :-)

Why do you think BTW that both John Atkinson from Stereophile, and
Steven Stone from Absolute Sound recommend putting Transporter on 100?
BTW, both are excellent sound engineers..
