Absolutely. The journey never ends. I'm pretty sure there are ways to outperform any configuration, as there is always ample room for improvement. But at what cost? I was fortunate enough to be able to compare, side by side, Gatorized Caiman DAC with a few other DACs that are much pricier, and realized at the end that none of these other fancier DACs had much to offer in terms of better sound quality. The only features I found on fancier DACs were the ability to choose whether to play the track in phase or out of phase, as well as switch between different sampling rates. But I'm not really that interested in having these features at my fingertips, so I couldn't find any justification to sell my Caiman and pony up for those expensive DACs. This is not to say that I've stopped looking; one of these days, something might emerge that will blow my current configuration out of the water. But as of today, I haven't been able to hear a configuration that will offer a more realistic musical illusion than what I'm hearing with the modded Touch into Gatorized Caiman all the way up to the pair of Magnepan planar speakers. -- magiccarpetride ------------------------------------------------------------------------ magiccarpetride's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84903 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
