There is a good deal of similarity between the adoration people have for Stad and Amati violins and the adoration people have for Clapton and, by extension, for his guitars. Just as it can be easily shown that a Stad or an Amati sound no different to the vast majority of listeners, it can be easily shown that Clapton is no better a guitar player than scores of other guitarists. So why all this insane Clapton-philia?
