Avoiding an "expensive mess" is the nightmare we are all trying to avoid! Its curious to me that even the manufacturer may not have the crossover points and slopes correct for the speakers they designed! - case in point - the MMG's from Magneplanar had a 12uF cap and a 2.2mH inductor. 1st order crossover. Not sure why. Possibly for size, price and resistance reasons. I replaced the cap with 20uF and the inductor with a .75mH. Brought the pseudo ribbon crossover point down to about 2Khz and increased bass response from the planar. Much better sound from the "baby" planars. The point - much to be learned here. I'm not close to being "done". -- earwaxer9 System: modified Winsome Labs Mouse, modified Maggie MMG's, Transporter, HSU sub 12, MSB DAC to 500 watt sub slave amp, JPS labs power cords, Silver audio interconnect, Audioquest Granite speaker cable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ earwaxer9's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=39527 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86483 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
