Yes, note the following from my earlier comment: "However, all of that
said, I do keep my amp's analog input volume control at a position that
allows me keep the Touch's level at or near 100 for a "listening
session". That also keeps the Touch's playback volume in the top half
of its range for most background music."

The only time this gets a bit tricky is when you're using the
Squeezebox straight into an amp that has no input level control. I used
to have a Duet that ran straight to a Dynaco ST-70. I simply built a set
of RCA cables with resistors built into the cable. 100% volume on the
Duet was very loud, but the resistors kept the volume out of
speaker-blowing territory. Background listening was still easily
accomplished with the Duet's digital volume still in the top half of
its range. Using resistors in the cable also allow for a much more
precise balance between channels than you normally get with even a good
potentiometer.
