With respects to hardware mods I have found one that may put an end to the buffersize war for what I am concerned. Answering to another thread, I recalled the interferences that had been caused by a bad switched PSU to my DAC output. I thought I got rid off it becausep I moved it to another outlet and put filters between it and the DAC PSU. I was wrong. Thinking about the adversely effects of these interferences to the sound, they were exactly similar to what I have been experimenting with buffer at 20k. Relatively harsh highs and flat sound with lack of bass and mids. This made me think to give a new try after unplugging the bad PSU. Guess what, the sound gets now fuller, richer and somewhat less bright than before. I can now enjoy Beyer without fatigue and Thorsen with emotion again :) The only reserve I still have is the slightly more metallic color than I had with buffer at 3200 and the bad PSU. I guess it is the same reason that pushed you to send your Touch to the clinic. Now it is time to keep listening and enjoying the music with these settings for a while before trying other tweaks. It is true that the most impressive result of these settings for me is the extremely good scenic representation allowing to locate each instrument very precisely in the sounstage.
