Personally I tend to go with what my ears tell me but it is based on an intermediate level of electronics knowledge. I don't use spice modelling and I've never chosen anything based on quoted distortion levels. What I can tell you is that there most definitely is an audible difference between cap type and or no cap in the signal path.
