I thought it was down to cost that cheap elco's were used. There are
plenty of designs on some more expensive kit that use film caps under
10uf for dc blocking.

I take your point that the new rubycon Z caps are very good and much
cheaper than the older ones. I still can't get my head around choosing
to use elco's in the signal path. I'll try a couple in one of my cd
players ;)
