Here's one opinion. Some years ago when I considered a Transporter, they were a solid $2,000 new with very few available on the used market with not much of a second-hand discount even then. I auditioned a Transporter and found there were plenty of DAC options I could use with my SB3 where I couldn't tell the difference. So I bought a DAC for my SB3.
Fast forward to two years ago and I bought a Touch. The DAC built into the Touch is much better than the SB3 internal DAC. I found I couldn't tell the difference between the SB3/DAC combo and the Touch as a stand-alone. I sold the DAC, put the Touch in my main system and moved the SB3 to a small system for my home office. I'm still happy with that. The Transporter SE is the current model, priced at $1300 and there still aren't many of the old Transporter models showing up used. For me, I'd prefer the Touch and suggest you audition a few DACs if you think it necessary. But the Touch by itself will be an improvement over your SB3.
