This is a difficult matter. 99% of modern music has the vocal recorded with close-mic and compressors, probably in a vocal booth with effects added. It's incredible if you think about it.
I can certainly understand people getting frustrated with accurate equipment because how can this be reminiscent of real voices in a real room without a bit of smear and colour? This is why some (not I) go for the 1% audiophile recordings. I have the best system I've ever owned so far and the best recordings for voice are classical choral works. Mainly because they don't shove microphones down the singers' throats. Close-mic is a totally unnatural perspective and it may even be just as damaging to realism as dynamic compression. That's saying something.
