jh901, I happen to think you are being treated a bit harshly on this thread. It's become a bit polarised, let's leave it at that. When I chose my current loudspeakers I decided they had to be active because I am totally convinced that they have several advantages and that in the future active speakers will slowly take over. Of course, I did listen to many loudspeakers before buying, and I did like the actives I heard, but the decision to narrow down to actives was not based on comprehensive testing but a combination opportunistic testing and being convinced intellectually. But if you say you hear that hi-end front end X sounds so much better than others then fine, I don't presume to tell people what they hear. All I'm saying is that some people like to involve left brain in these matters, many times because they have been fooled, or have fooled themselves, in the past and this brings a certain caution (or neurosis, you choose). I am not trying to reach a compromise, this is just a stream of consciousness! Take it at face value.
