I think a lot of what becomes audio myths starts off with some small kernel of truth which is then blown well out of proportion. Cables and vibration isolation are two examples.
In the case of cables it is quite easy to hear the improvement made by switching from poorly made low cost cables (like the kind mass market manufacturers throw in with their equipment) to well made, moderately priced cables (like the kind sold by Belkin or Blue Jeans Cables). The mistake audiophiles make is in thinking that further improvements can be made by going from well made, moderately priced cables to over built and over priced cables. So what we end up with is just this crazy price war with cables costs as much, if not more than, the equipment. Silly. Vibration isolation follows similar lines - switching from a poorly made low cost stand to a well built moderately priced stand will result in noticeable sonic improvements but going from a well built moderately priced stand to an over built, over priced stand does not result in any noticeable sonic improvement. Internal bracing of speakers follows the same pattern so now we have speakers with internally braced solid metal cabinets - just insane. And of course one of pet peeves, expensive USB cables, is just pure BS from start to finish. So remember: Always follow the money! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ralphpnj's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10827 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97950 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
