Jim Anderson did some nice mixes for sure. We may argue about a bit to
much sibilance on Patricia Barbers new "Smash" album :)
What Steve Hoffman does with his re-re-releases of old tapes is
completely different. He makes money with serving the crowd of
audiophools buying the same recording over and over again even if the
best sounding version still sounds like shit against recordings that
were done right from the beginning or with recent equipment, like
ralphonj already mentioned.
Also i remember reading about his practices back in the Gold DCC era he
used tube equipment to give his releases a special touch. No wonder that
people buying modern gear and castrate it with esoteric parts or
speakers welcome this approach.
I have to admit that some of these releases i had a chance to listen
indeed sound good but have that slightly bleeching signature i don´t
always like. But with that like with most other things these days you´ll
find pro and contra on the internet today.
