I appreciate your frustration, and understand that you are asking for
someone's report from what they have actually heard. Without wanting to
spark off any further rowing, I wonder though whether Archimago might be
able to help with this question relating to his findings here
http://archimago.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/measurements-corning-usb-3-optical.html
It would surely be a useful starting point to find out whether there is
anything to cure.

_Do_you_still_have_an_SBT_Arch?_ As far as I can see, your corning test
was carried out using a computer as a transport. I would be interested
to know whether you experience the same problem with 8kHz packet noise
using the SBT as transport.

Since the SBT is a comparatively low powered device with (by all
accounts) a well designed switchmode power supply, one might wonder
whether it was better or worse than an ordinary computer [which is what
I am assuming you used Arch] in doing whatever it is that that is
supposed to be bad that the corning/audio regen is supposed to be
curing. It seems to me that it might be a useful starting point to know
whether you get the 8khz problem (and higher noise level) using the SBT
into your home theatre amp.
