Solar and wind generation plants are already cheaper to build than fossil fuel plants. The fuel is free and environmentally friendly. What is keeping them from mass implementation to replace all fossil fuel generated electricity? Lack of storage for the generated energy to cover slack (and dark) times. Just think about a "grid" with one house on it. Would you rather run a diesel generator 24/7 or have solar panels on your roof and a few Powerwalls?
