You misinterpreted my post. I was talking about those who claim LPs
sound better than CDs due to some inherent quality that the digital
format can't match. Nothing more. Hence if a CD can sound
indistinguishable from an LP, any perception that LPs sound better must
be due to some other factor. 

I do think that in the heyday of LPs -- the late 1950s thru the 70s,
that there was often more care taken in the recording & production
process, especially as regards rock and popular music. 

I would agree with you that the CD format is superior in terms of noise
level, distortion, linearity and other important technical factors. It
is just a pity that those capabilities are so often wasted. (Though
generally, I find modern classical recordings do take advantage of the
CD's abilities in a way that pop/rock doesn't.)
