Well, I exported /root via NFS, since it now contains the first dir — /root/.aufs-dummy (on btrfs) — on the aufs branch, but there was no problem at all accessing it on the client. May be a strictly ZFS-related issue. Or a strange fluke... I also tried remounting / without nodiratime, as it's usually mounted like that, whereas ZFS is just mounted with noatime, but it made no difference, all worked fine. Hm.
