Guys and Gals,

It sounds like some of us have had similar thoughts, and some have done some research,

great feedback.

Some of the material I have seen on Fox recently does not seem to have huge budgets, however they

have been very well put together. I am not talking in terms of a 10 minutes of footage supported

by background music. The one I watched yesterday was a hour show on 3 English guy’s paragliding

in South Africa. It was a short story about a dream, the plan and the execution, the highs and lows of the

trip, it was interesting.

Did I read into one reply that a similar idea has been submitted to the GFA management committee and it never

came out the other side? From what I have seen of the GFA’s gliding promotions program is that it is constrained

by old fashion thinking and/or a lack of budget, and some clubs who are happy where they are, doing what they

are doing now.

This idea, if it is to get off the ground needs the support of the national body, and may even need some sponsorship. For

example, every car seen in the doco is a Ford, Commodore or a Subaru, every GPS is a Garmin, etc. With commentary

along the lines of – “Joes retrieve crew easily made their way to his out landing site because of the additional clearance provided

by his Subaru Outback and the dash mounted Garmin GPS used for navigation”.

I know through experience how well the sport of Motor Rally is doing because of media exposure, surly Gliding can learn from

this example.

That's not quite the"consensus" that I came away with.

As I recall one discussion at Warwick, the general feeling was that something along the same lines would be great, but that we would need to make sure that the flying depicted was not in breach of the law.

I saw that at George's last year and it was played on a rain day at Warwick
at the State Championships too.
The consensus was that that sort of ratbaggery would get them all instantly
grounded at an Australian gliding club.
