advice is now responding to itself that he is out of the Office in reply to
his "out of the Office" emails.

In other lists I belong to/manage, there is an option for the
moderator to suspend or terminate message delivery to a member for
whatever reason. If this list management software has such
an option, perhaps someone in a position of supreme power can invoke this for
John's mail delivery until he reaches civilization again
...?
