Good on you Christopher. Remember that
Australians are (or used to be) proudly self-reliant and prefer not to ask
the Supreme Being to do things they can do for themselves - unless of course
they pay the Supreme Being to do what they ask.

In other lists I belong to/manage, there is an option for the
moderator to suspend or terminate message delivery to a member for
whatever reason. If this list management software has such
an option, perhaps someone in a position of supreme power can invoke this
for John's mail delivery until he reaches civilization again
...?
