Roger,
I have seen the GA200 but do not know much about them except
they look like a born again Pawnee and
as you point out the high acquisition costs.
One of the things that makes the Pawnee a standout as a glider tug is that
its climb speeds are compatible with glider
towing speeds.

You are completely forgetting that Gippsland Aeronautics have developed and
manufacture a superior Pawnee namely the GA200. An excellent Australian
effort. Sure, it is not revolutionary but it is excellent evolutionary
design. Sadly it has a high acquisition cost and doesn't take us away from
fuel guzzling engines.

There are lots of alternatives out there BUT unfortunately no-one has built
a better Pawnee despite the many hundreds
of thousands of dollars that has been put into projects round the world.
Fortunately there are enough Pawnees about that parts are still relatively
easy to come by, and the airframe relatively simple to
maintain.

Our club has embarked on a medium to long term planning project and, as part
of this, we are looking at the various alternatives that are available for
glider towing.
There are many sites, forums and blogs dealing with various gliders but very
little information available on towplanes (or I am looking at the wrong
places).
Can someone point me in the right direction or can we start discussing this
topic? After all, the average Club tug is getting older by the day and
sooner or later we all have to seek a suitable replacement
