The reflective tape commented on at the DG website is a silver mirror tape / film and works just like your bathroom mirror. It is very different to the tape/film used on road signs. The road sign stuff is designed to bounce light back at the light source (mini cats eye reflectors). You need to be in line with the sun for it to work properly. The road sign material is also relatively thick and not that pliable and has trouble going around tight corners.
I have some of the road sign film on the wing tips of GZQ (primarily to stop people walking into the wingtip in a dark hangar from bright outside light) and have yet to hear anyone comment about increased visibility in the day time. It does show up brilliantly at night in the headlights though. You see the wingtips from a long way away whilst the rest of the aircraft is a vague shape.
