The ASW12 starred in 'The Sunship Game', an 82 minute movie (DVD now) - yes! a
movie on comparing Moffat (numbers man) and Gleb (feel man) on their quest to
win the Nationals via the Regionals and get on the 1972 World Team.
Moffat was threatened by the ASW12 as it had the edge on his Open Cirrus (with
some pretty awesome modifications), "5% for every mile, for every hour" he'd
say.

Back in about 1968/9, Alexander Schleicher produced the ASW12 - a fibreglass
glider with a span of about 20m, glide angle well over 45 - a seriously hot
ship at the time and a worthy competitor for the early Nimbus and Kestrels of
the day.One of the ways AS decided to achieve this was to not fit any airbrakes
at all, and to rely only on a tail chute for approach control.Having acquired
one of these, an American gentleman decided that he would try to learn to land
the thing without using the tail chute, reasoning that the chute was bound to
fail some time. After several hair-raising attempts involving sideslips,
nearly cleaning up the fence on approach, actually hitting the fence at the far
end, various ground loops and an excursion through the tiedown area, our
intrepid aviator decided not to continue with this exercise. This story was
related by the pilot quite grahically in a book whose title I forget, but no
doubt Emilis will recall it.The ASW12 had a short history,
